A friend of mine, who is a fifth grade teacher, e-mailed me about how her class rewrote Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie into a reader’s theatre. I could not stop laughing about the cooperative group holding a cast party! I love it!
Bravo, group!
Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie is definitely a book that has had an impact on my classroom. Many of my students read it, have suggested it to others, and are using the book to complete their assignments. Recently we were studying perspective and one of the assignment options was to take a chapter from a book and rewrite it into a reader’s theatre. A student of mine turned a chapter of Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie into a 25 minute play that was creative, insightful, and well performed. As a teacher it was one of those moments that keep us at our job. They even celebrated with an afterschool cast party.
Steven Spielberg had better watch out!
