Carlsbad Caverns

Leaving our hotel was easy – it was not the type of place you would like to lounge around enjoying the paper and slow morning.  We looked forward to seeing what it actually looked like.  We left and were greeted by a hilly desert as opposed to the flatness we had earlier in Texas.  We marveled at the beauty as we drove admiring all the desert plants, the beautiful land, and the emptiness of it all.  We also marveled at the heat.  Well, I’m not sure if marveled is the correct word but it definitely was a topic of conversation.

We arrived at Carlsbad Caverns in the early afternoon and purchased tickets for the Big Room self -guided tour.  We went down 700 feet in an elevator and walked out into a big “room” (so I guess they named it appropriately).  The room was over eight acres in size and was filled with stalagmites and stalactites of every imaginable shape and size.  We spent an hour or so walking around with an open mouth at pretty much everything we saw.
