Let’s Go South ’12 Visits Lemuria Books

While in Jackson, Mississippi, we stopped by Lemuria Books. Many children’s literature enthusiasts recommended we visit,  so we looked forward to seeing this bookshop in person. We entered the store and were immediately in awe. Everywhere you looked there were books  from floor to ceiling. The shelves and stacks begged to be explored. Reading spaces were tucked in among the stacks. It was easy to imagine a person spending hours contentedly reading in this inviting space. In the children’s section, plush characters greeted us as we perused the diverse collection. We quickly found many of our favorites: Deza MaloneGloriana June Hemphill, and Marty McGuire. They begged us to sit down and spend some time with them.

Lemuria Books did not feel like a stodgy bookshop. No, sir! It felt like spending quality time in your favorite library surrounded by the books you love most. It was difficult for us to leave,  but Natchitoches and others places still needed to be explored. As we left this lovely independent bookshop, we both vowed to return the next time we visit Mississippi.

  1. I am from Mississippi, currently living in Austin, and this is the first place I go when I go home. I don’t even have to touch a book, I just perch myself on that quaint, little sofa in the adult fiction area and sit. It’s like coming home to my Mama, everything is all better when I walk through the door!

(a little p.s., in flicker you have The King Edward being located in Mobil, it’s located in Jackson. I am sure all your stops can start to run together after awhile! 😉 )
